MATLAB and Simulink Seminar Series
In Collaboration with MathWorks
HPC.nrw and MathWorks are continuing their successful collaboration for the fourth consecutive year, offering a four-part onlineworkshop series on High-Performance Computing and research software development with MATLAB and Simulink this May.
The series is designed for students, researchers and scientists with increasing computational demands and combines concise theoretical input with practical, hands-on exercises in an online environment, enabling participants to directly apply the concepts introduced.
Workshop Schedule
1. Parallel Computing with MATLAB
Date: May 5, 2026 | 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm (online)
Speaker: Dr. Thomas Künzel (MathWorks)
Course level: Beginner to intermediate
Registration: https://eveeno.com/hpcnrw-parallel-matlab-2026
This session introduces the fundamentals of parallel computing with MATLAB on the desktop. Participants will learn about code optimization and key programming constructs such as parfor, parfeval, and parsim. The workshop also covers scaling workflows to GPUs and clusters.
2. Using MATLAB on HPC Systems
Date: May 7, 2026 | 3.00 pm - 4.30 pm (online)
Speaker: Damian Pietrus (Mathworks)
Course level: Intermediate
Registration: https://eveeno.com/hpcnrw-hpc-matlab-2026
This workshop focuses on working with HPC systems. Participants will learn how to access clusters, set up cluster profiles, and submit jobs. The session includes running single-node and multi-node jobs, working with CPUs and GPUs, and basic debugging and troubleshooting techniques.
3. Introduction to Research Software Development with MATLAB
Date: May 12, 2026 | 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm (online)
Speaker: Dr. Thomas Künzel (MathWorks)
Course level: Intermediate
Registration: https://eveeno.com/hpcnrw-rse-matlab-2026
This session introduces best practices for collaborative research software development. Topics include writing clean and maintainable code, as well as using version control within MATLAB.
4. Introduction to Research Software Development with Simulink
Date: May19, 2026 | 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm (online)
Speaker: Dr. Stefan Kerber (Mathworks)
Course level: Beginner to intermediate
Registration: https://eveeno.com/hpcnrw-rse-simulink-2026
This workshop focuses on applying software development best practices to graphical programming. Starting from a MATLAB-based example, participants will re-implement workflows in Simulink using structured and maintainable approaches.
