HPC and AI in Germany
Perfect match: HPC and AI (Artificial Intelligence) are no competitor, but complement each other. HPC provides the very high computing power needed for modern AI models. In order to be able to make best use of the wide range of possibilities in the field o HPC and AI in Germany, a broad-based support offering is required. This support offering is made possible by the various connections between HPC and AI.
As part of HPC.NRW and NHR, an overview graphic was created that shows which national and state-wide HPC and AI services are available. Because in order to be able to use the diverse offers, you have to know them!
In Germany, there are competence networks at state level, such as HPC.NRW or the HKHLR. Small and medium-sized HPC computing time projects can be calculated here. Researchers whose university does not have a high-performance computer or who need even more computing power can immerse themselves in the world of high-performance computing here. The skills of experts from their federal state are available to them here.
The Hessian Center for AI, AI Service Center Berlin Brandenburg, KISSKI and WestAI offer nationwide support in the area of AI support - marked in yellow on the overlay graphic. Researchers and industrial companies can find low-threshold access to AI expertise here to take their projects to the next level.
Since 2021, the NHR centers have been supporting the nationwide supply of HPC needs in Germany at a national level. The centers have different thematic focuses that ensure optimal support for HPC users. Medium to large HPC computing time projects are calculated in NHR. Scientists with a doctorate who belong to a state or state-recognized, institutionally accredited German university are eligible to apply to use the resources of the NHR network.
If the computing time projects become even larger - in the area of HPC and AI - then there are further contact points (marked blue in the graphic).
