47th VI-HPS Tuning Workshop at University Duisburg-Essen
From June 2 to 5, 2025, the 47th VI-HPS Tuning Workshop took place at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Over the course of an intensive four-day event, 25 participants from science and research had the opportunity to gain in-depth insights into performance engineering and the use of powerful analysis tools — supported by an experienced team of 7 instructors and assistants.

The focus was on the practical application of well-established performance tools such as Score-P, Extra-P, Cube, Scalasca, and MAQAO, as well as commercial tools including Linaro MAP, Linaro Performance Reports, and Vampir. HPC.NRW provides site-wide licenses for these commercial tools, ensuring that all participants can continue to use them on HPC.NRW systems beyond the workshop.
Particularly valuable was the close exchange with the tool developers, who were present as instructors. Together with HPC.NRW experts, participants worked hands-on to analyze and optimize their own research codes. Real-world scientific applications were at the center of attention—with the goal of integrating the tools sustainably into existing development workflows.
Workshops like this one highlight the core mission of HPC.NRW: supporting researchers in using complex HPC tools and promoting the sustainable utilization of resources and expertise across North Rhine-Westphalia. At the same time, such events provide an excellent opportunity to connect with the HPC.NRW consulting team, fostering collaboration that extends well beyond the workshop itself.
