20th HPC Admin Day at TU Dortmund

HPC community from NRW in professional exchange

On August 26, 2026, TU Dortmund hosted the 20th HPC Admin Day. More than 30 representatives from universities in North Rhine-Westphalia that operate and maintain high-performance computers came together for the full-day event. The focus was on current developments as well as technical and organizational issues related to the operation of High-Performance Computing systems.

The HPC Admin Day takes place twice a year and provides administrators and technical staff from universities and research institutions in NRW with a platform for networking and professional exchange. In addition to current topics, the event focuses in particular on practical questions concerning the reliable operation, further development, and maintenance of HPC infrastructures.

Current developments and activities of HPC.nrw were also part of the program. Marc-André Hermanns, coordinator of work package 2 User Support, provided an insight into the current status and ongoing activities in a 15-minute presentation. Gerrit Pape, coordinator of the task area Evaluation of New Technology Trends within work package 4 Joint Innovation Activities, also presented a specific project topic with technology scouting, providing an impulse for professional exchange.

The event at TU Dortmund once again demonstrated how important regular personal exchange and close cooperation within the HPC community in North Rhine-Westphalia are. Participants used the opportunity to share practical experiences, discuss common challenges, and take away new ideas and inspiration for their daily work.
